Because the children of today’s generation are very precious and fragile like crystals. Their glittering sparkles in curious eyes reflect courage and readiness to change this world for the better. Therefore, on this journey to knowledge, they need to be respected and understood. Only with an individual approach can we manage it without trampling on their personality. Montessori pedagogy will preserve their unique personality and help them discover the world and its beauties in a relaxed way.
In our Montessori educational centre, the child chooses an activity of its choice throughout the day. It chooses the place of activity, the form (individual or group) and the time it will devote to it. Emphasis is placed on working in closed spaces, but a stay in the fresh air is also a matter of course, where the children can fully devote themselves to physical activities and get to know nature with an active participation in its improvement. Children work with Montessori tools, create their own tools, implement projects, actively use books and things from everyday life, take care of the environment in which they live, discuss everything that interests them, ask questions and help each other. Rest and meals are arranged according to the child’s needs, so the child is not forced to do anything here either. Here, individual work prevails over group work.
The varying intensity of the work noise alternates with a period of silence, which occurs when most children do work that does not require verbal communication, so most of the activities are done in silence. It is also important to develop respectful communication and mutually solve problems through conversation. Working with a foreign language, dancing and singing while playing a musical instrument are part of regular activities. Children are creative in their work, and their minds and motor skills are developed with their needs in mind. The pace of education is chosen by the child himself, where it learns educational activities in a casual way and gains new experiences and knowledge. Everything is in accordance with the readiness of the child. In the premises of the centre, children have freedom of movement, but at the same time there are imaginary boundaries and rules that children know and should follow. During their education, they encounter trust and respect and learn their importance and seriousness.
We are loving parents who will do anything for the happiness of their children, because it was them – our children – who led us to the idea that we must start with the change first, and only then can we change the whole world. It was this change of perspective on their upbringing that forced us to stop following the well-worn paths of our parents’ and grandparents’ upbringing and look at things through their eyes, their pure soul, which wants only one thing, and that is to be happy at the given moment. And isn’t that exactly what everyone wants for their child? After all, we too were little children who wanted to be respected and understood. Children are not a blank sheet that needs to be filled with our thoughts, opinions and experiences. Children are the future adults who will bring something new and wonderful to the world, and they are the future in our present. We can only be good guides for them on their journey to becoming unique beings.
We are guides, people with hearts in the right place. We are graduates of the 2-year diploma course “Montessori pedagogy” for children aged 3-6 years accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic, under the guidance of lecturer and founder of the Slovak Montessori Association (SAM) Mgr. Soňa Bobeková, and graduates of Montessori pedagogy for children aged 0-3 years led by lecturer Mgr. Dita Dlouhá. Among other things, we completed training in the field of educator in children’s centres and courses on how to respect and be respected towards children in the collective.
